About

I have a broad range of interests and ideas often develop from unrelated sources, however there are themes that re-occur which reflect my interest in ancient history, Renaissance art, church architecture, and natural forms.

I tend to  explore ideas through a process of experimentation, accident, design and synthesis. The ‘unexpected happy accident’ has always had its own particular attraction and is often absorbed, or modified into imagery or simply ‘archived’ for another day.

Increasingly I reflect on the fragility of life, the impact of climate change on the natural world, the process of ageing and the loss of tight-knit family structures. A quiet transformation has taken place in my thinking where I find that solitude, peace and reflection have become an increasingly important enablers in focussing the direction of my creativity.

I am interested in work by many different printmakers but some of my favourites include: Michael Rothenstein, Edward Bawden, Mary Fedden, Norman Ackroyd, Shiko Munakata and Julian Meredith.
